The Chapel is in need of your support to make much needed upgrades and improvements. The Wainscott Chapel is one of Wainscott’s most important and historic buildings. Since 1908, the Chapel has proudly served as Wainscott’s non-denominational Community Center. The Wainscott Sewing Society, the Chapel’s owner, is a community-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit whose primary mission is to preserve and maintain the Chapel.

We have worked hard over the years to maintain the building, In the past 6 years we have achieved great things: added public water, built a handicap accessible bathroom addition (to replace the outhouse!), installed a low nitrogen septic system, added a rear handicap ramp, installed air conditioning, painted the exterior, and replaced electric and lighting. While our major source of funding comes from renting the Chapel to community groups and local residents for community events such as meetings, weddings and memorial services, our ability to do so is inherently limited by the Chapel’s outdated infrastructure.

We have identified and prioritized the following necessary improvements to the Chapel for 2026:

• add a driveway to the rear of the Chapel to reach the new handicap ramp, The driveway will include two handicap parking spaces, and a dry well for rainwater runoff, ($30,000 including site plan fees and permits, survey, dry well, and required ground water tests.)

• repair and restore the over 20 large windows at the chapel ($5,000 each)  

• certificate of occupancy required upgrades

• after construction landscaping improvements
